1. NO ONE IS COMING TO HELP YOU.
Except you're a child, an animal or a woman, no one is out there to love you unconditionally.
When you brace yourself up for the worst, not many situations will put you down for long.
Navigate life ALL THE TIME, as though you're alone, More frequently than ever, the only person you'll always constantly see beside you is YOU.


2. HAVE GAP MONTHS TO SKILL UP
When a man's financial stability is threatened, the portal to depression is activated.
The source of your unhappiness is mostly tied to irregular income flow, no job.
Do not be tied to the restrictions of your first degree, this is something i have come to learn on my journey through life.

Skill up based on interests or based on trend.
There are jobs everywhere. You're simply unemployable. 

Well, if you know me well then you don't need me to tell you how much i love everything tech, the software and some knowledge on how the hardware works, in my office where i work now, they tell you to have a little knowledge of everything, i took that to heart.

About to get my first degree, i applied for Google Scholarship to be trained to become an IT specialist my interest is in cyber security and UX/UI design mostly though, And i hope to perfect this Under 12 months, The plan is to freelance so I can maintain skilling up and plan my move out of the country. 

As a man, the odds are against you. 

As a black man, the odds are doubly against you. 

And as a young Nigerian, The odd are greatly against you.

SKILL UP.

3. IF IT IS LEGAL AND IT PUTS FOOD ON YOUR TABLE, BE PROUD OF IT
In my journey through life i did some odd Jobs, Hawking, doing something called Job where you carry things for people to a drop point, i have done almost any odd job you can think of in the span of the next 10 seconds except, Bricklaying... the last work i did before joining UBA was at a paper company, i started with sewing and making thick cover notebooks, then learnt and started printing invoices (I learnt this within two days)...i am a fast learner...I i earn 5k monthly.

Develop immunity against being shamed over what puts food on your table.
You're not engraved in its comfort but comforted in it being your launchpad to the life you deserve.

4. CONSISTENTLY FEED YOUR MIND WITH THE PICTURE OF THE LIFE YOU WANT, NOT THE LIFE YOU HAVE
I'd gaze at cars coming and leaving, I'd point at cars that'd fit me and imagine myself driving them.
I'd view not from the position of envy but from the position of satisfaction.
i will go to auto sale websites and browse about the car i want, bargain the price, I felt good.
As a young struggling man, you must consistently seek "I feel good" moments. That was mine.
I'd browse online for beautiful apartments, send them mails on what my preferred home is and ask what it'd cost, all from the confines of my apartment.
I felt good.


6. KEEP FAMILY CLOSE BUT PUT YOU FIRST
Regardless of what your income flow is, incentivize your wins and losses, Buy yourself random gifts for nothing and Treat yourself to decent solo dinners

When everyone's gone, the only one standing with you will always be you, Be kind to you.

"There's no better adversity. Every defeat, heartbreak, every loss contains its own seed, it's own lessons on how to be a better man"

             

7. EMBRACE FAILURES
You'll live long enough to have a shit ton of rejections. You can't always put yourself down on every experience.
Tweak your perspective!
Half full? Half empty?  As you expect for the best, expect the worst, The worst will happen...Be ready for it.
Be perspective-ready and Focus on how it makes you a better man, How it teaches you patience and contentment.
Don't mess up your essence.


8. WOMEN ARE A DISTRACTION
If you've found a good woman, good for you, If you've just suffered a heartbreak, better for you.
Don't pander over skirts, They'll always be there.
You won't have time on your side all the time; focus now on you.
Pursue you till you're full.

"In the end, what give you speed in career or achievements is not what you know but who you know"


9. BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT YOUR NETWORK.
Your network is your net-worth, you can start from your Old School Association.
Meet people and provide value. 

Get a gym membership, be a part of social clubs, join a religious body for young people, anything.
Go out, meet people, sell yourself.
Be intentional about not being a parasite who seeks to use people. Be intentional about providing value.
You'll find your audience


10. START EVERYDAY WITH KINDNESS AND GRATITUDE.
Remember how I spoke about how every man must have "I feel good" moments? Don't underestimate the power of those moments.
Kindness and Gratitude gives you doses of those moments on a daily.
I have battled depression and what got me out every time was gratitude.
I'd grab my pad and pen down 15 random things I was grateful for. I'd do it daily.
I'd go out and decide to overpay a hawker or a commercial motorcyclist or buy face masks for some people who cant get it for themselves at the time...Kindness.
They were my "I feel good" moments.


11. YIELD TO AN HIGHER POWER
Hold your "GOD" well, I ascribe every strength I was able to draw in my down times to the one that the lord God ascribed me...You cannot adult successfully on your own, find your Higher power, Yield totally.
Jesus is my Higher power.
